KALAMAZOO, MI - One man is facing assault charges after threatening a neighbor with an assault rifle over a parking space.

Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to the 700 block of West Kalamazoo Avenue around 1:30 p.m. on a call of an assault.

The victim called 911 to report that a neighboring resident assaulted him after he temporarily parked in the suspect's parking space, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said in a news release.

When the victim did not move his vehicle, the suspect, a 21-year-old man, returned to his residence and retrieved an M4-style assault rifle.

When the suspect returned from his residence, he "aggressively pointed the firearm" in the faces of the victim and another neighbor while making "threatening" statements, police said.

The victim then moved his vehicle and called the police.

Upon investigating, officers retrieved the M4 assault rifle and marijuana from the suspect's residence.

The 21-year-old man will face charges of felonious assault and possession of marijuana. No further details on the suspect have been released.

Police ask anyone with information regarding this incident to contact KDPS at 249-337-8994 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
